A license is required for onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) installers, property transfer inspectors, and cleaners.
All licenses expire on December 31st of each year and must be renewed by January 31st. Licenses that are not renewed will expire. All licensed professionals will receive an email at the end of the year with instructions on renewing your license(s). Please do not use the link below for renewing a license. It is for new licenses only.
Fees
The current fee for all license types – renewal and new – is $60.00. Payments must be submitted by mail or in person to:

Requirements for Obtaining a License
Installers
- Must have completed the NAWT installer class or equivalent
- Maintain 6 hours of continuing education for renewal (see table below)
- Agree to the terms in of Code of Ethics
Cleaners/Pumpers
- Must have completed the NAWT O&M 1 or 2 or equivalent class
- Maintain 6 hours of continuing education (see table below)
- Agree to terms in Code of Ethics
- Maintain a contract with an approved septage disposal site
NAWT Inspectors
- Must have completed the NAWT inspector class or equivalent
- Agree to the terms in of Code of Ethics
Operation and maintenance service providers
- Must have completed the NAWT O&M 1 and 2 or equivalent class
- Maintain 6 hours of continuing education (see table below)
- Agree to terms in Code of ethics
- Provide proof of training required by manufacturer (as applicable and available) for all equipment you service
Items needed to apply for or renew an OWTS license:
- Certifications and continuing education (CE) documentation in electronic format to upload to application
- CE documentation (if needed – see table below for guidance on requirements)
- Signed code of ethics (this is part of the electronic application)
