Communicable Disease and Emergency Management

This team works with doctors, hospitals, and labs to help stop the spread of infectious diseases. They:

  • Find and report important disease cases
  • Investigate each case to understand what happened
  • Share helpful information with families and the community
  • Recommend and take action to prevent the spread of illnesses
  • Train local organizations on how to prevent infections

Their goal is to keep people informed and protect the community from disease.

CDEM Programs

Emergency Management Program

This program helps protect people in Boulder County during emergencies and disasters.

This includes:

  • Natural events like floods and wildfires
  • Human-caused events like bioterrorism

The goal is to reduce harm and keep the community safe.

HIV/STI Outreach Program

Staff offers free and private testing, counseling, and education in clinics and out in the community. People can choose to stay anonymous if they want.

Staff work with each person to create a plan to reduce their risk and support their sexual health.

The program also runs the Works Program, which provides clean syringes and other supplies to help prevent disease and keep people who use drugs safe.

Immunizations (Vaccines)

The Immunization Program helps prevent diseases that vaccines can stop. The program works to:

  • Share information about why vaccines are important for kids and adults
  • Support doctors and community groups with vaccine guidance
    Offer weekly vaccine clinics
  • The goal is to keep people in Boulder County healthy and protected from preventable diseases.

Tuberculosis

The TB Program works with the Denver Metro TB Clinic to diagnose and treat people who may have or have active tuberculosis (TB), as well as people who have been exposed.

The program also provides information and support to healthcare providers and the public.

The goal is to prevent the spread of TB and make sure people get the care they need.
