Reproductive Health
Reproductive health means overall well-being related to the reproductive system—not just the absence of disease. It includes physical, mental, and social health.
It means people can have a safe and satisfying sex life, and the ability and freedom to decide if, when, and how often to have children.
Sexual Health
Sexual health is an important part of overall physical and emotional well-being. It includes how we understand, experience, and take care of our sexuality throughout life.
Being sexually healthy means:
- Knowing that sexuality is a normal part of life and includes more than just sexual behavior
- Respecting your own rights and the rights of others
- Having access to accurate information, education, and care
- Taking steps to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and getting care when needed
- Being able to experience pleasure, connection, and intimacy if you choose
- Feeling comfortable talking about sexual health with partners and healthcare providers
Confidentiality and Rights of Minors
In Colorado, people under 18 can get confidential birth control, emergency birth control, and STI testing and treatment without parent/guardian permission. Parents/guardians are required to be notified before obtaining an abortion in most circumstances. Learn more about teen reproductive rights in Colorado.
