For your convenience, we have three drop boxes – available 24 hours/day, everyday – where you can drop off motor vehicle paperwork:
- Boulder – 1750 33rd Street
- Stand-alone box outside doors on parking lot side
- Longmont – 529 Coffman Street
- Stand-alone box at the northeast corner of the building
- Important note: Do not use the box by the doors on the west (parking lot) side of the building. That box is used by other County offices and paperwork submitted here may not get to us.
- Lafayette – 1755 S. Public Road
- Slot on exterior wall to the right of the doors
Completing Vehicle Registration Renewals via Drop Box
Drop boxes can be used for submitting a variety of Motor Vehicle forms, but they are most commonly used for completing vehicle registration renewals (if you do not want to renew online).
To complete your renewal via drop box, include the following in an envelope to a drop box:
- Option 1: If you have your vehicle registration renewal renewal postcard, simply put it in an envelope along with a check payable to the Boulder County Clerk for the “Total Due” amount on the postcard.
- Your postcard will list two amounts: one that includes a State Parks pass and one that excludes a State Parks pass (the difference is $29, the cost of the pass). If you would like a pass, pay the amount that includes the pass. Otherwise, pay the lower amount. Learn more about this pass.
- Option 2: If you do not have the postcard, please include a note with your check (payable to the Boulder County Clerk) that has the following information:
- Name of vehicle owner(s) listed on registration
- Phone number where we can reach you if we have questions
- License plate number of the vehicle you are renewing (you can include the VIN of the vehicle if you don’t have the plate number)
- If you do not know the amount owed, please use the contact us form on our website or call our office at 303-413-7710 to ask.
Important Notes when Renewing your Registration by Drop Box
- If your postcard says “Emissions Test Required,” make sure to complete your testing first. You do not need to submit a copy, Air Care submits testing records directly to us within 24-hours.
- If your postcard says “Provide Proof of Insurance,” include a copy of your insurance information. Most renewals do not require proof of insurance as we get records directly from insurance companies.
- Renewals must be received by the last day of the grace period (one month after the expiration month) to avoid late fees.
- If using the drop box, please allow up to two business days for us to process your renewal.
- Registration renewal with new stickers will then be mailed to your registration address. Please allow up to a week for mail.
- Thus, if using the drop box, expect the total turnaround time to be between 7-10 days to receive your renewal, though it is frequently a shorter turnaround time.
- We recommend using an MV Express Kiosk if you need your renewal more quickly than the timeframe listed above.
