Boulder County Residents

Serving In-State in the Military

• Visit the Vehicle Registration page for information on registering a vehicle for the first time.
• Annual registration renewals can be completed online or at any MV Express Kiosk in the state.

Serving Out-of-State in the Military

• Vehicle Registration:
  • You may register a newly purchased vehicle either in Boulder County or in the state where you are stationed (if you’ll be there for an extended period of time).
  • To register the vehicle in Boulder County, please complete this Power of Attorney form and get it notarized. Send the notarized form to your power of attorney, who can then visit one of our offices to register your vehicle.
• Registration Renewal:
  • If your vehicle is registered in Boulder County, you may continue to renew your registration online or by mail.
  • You may request an emissions extension if your vehicle requires an emissions test but is temporarily out-of-state.

Non-Residents

Information for out-of-state military personnel who are actively stationed in Boulder County.

Vehicle Registration

• If you purchase a new vehicle while you are stationed in Colorado, you may choose to register it either in your home state or in Colorado.
• To register your vehicle in Boulder County, please see our registration guidelines.

Registration Renewal

• You may either continue to renew your vehicle in your home state, or
• Register your vehicle in Colorado if you’re going to be in Colorado for an extended period of time. Please see the New Resident registration guidelines for more information.

If you choose to register your vehicle in Colorado, you may apply for an exemption from the Specific Ownership Tax by completing Form DR 2667.
