Colorado law requires that motorcycles, RVs, motor homes, and trailers be registered just like other motor vehicles. Documentation and other requirements may vary as listed below.
Appointments now required for in-person visits. Additionally, registration renewals need to be completed out of office. Options include online, by mail or drop box, or at a self-service kiosk. Read about these changes (including benefits, and FAQs). Información en español.
How to Register Motorcycles, RVs, and Trailers
Motorcycle Registration
- Motorcycles do not require an emissions test and fees and taxes are likely to be less than a typical automobile.
- Low-power scooters must be registered directly with the state.
- Dirt bikes (or off-road bikes) are not considered motor vehicles by the state, but still need to be registered with Colorado Parks and Recreation.
RVs and Motor Homes
- Taxes and Fees for motor homes and RVs are likely to cost more due to the heavier weight of these vehicles.
- A weight slip will be required for out-of-state vehicles if the empty weight is over 4,500 pounds and is not listed on the title.
Trailer Registration
- Late fees apply upon expired registration and if new purchases are not registered within 60 days of purchase. Late fees are $10 for trailers less than 16,000 lbs. Trailers in excess of 16,000 lbs. have a late fee of $25/month, not to exceed $100.
