JET Program

Jail Education and Transition Program -- JET

Our Mission: To provide a dignified nourishing environment to help incarcerated individuals gain knowledge, awareness, skills, and services that allow them to grow. Our goal is to prepare participants to re-enter the community safely and as productive members of their communities and families.

What We Do:

The Jail Education and Transitions (JET) Team is a jail-based program that is part of Boulder County’s Community Justice Services (CJS) division. JET works with incarcerated individuals who self-refer and meet the program’s eligibility requirements. The JET program is a therapeutic community in the jail that serves adults 18 years and older. We consider the individualized treatment needs of the client. Clients are assigned to classes based on individualized services plans to address their specific criminogenic, mental health and substance use treatment needs.

The program provides:

  • Group counseling
  • Individual therapy
  • Independent study
  • Education and tutoring support
  • Re-Entry and Case Planning Support for up to one year following release

The Jail Education and Transitions (JET) Team is a jail-based therapeutic community program. JET works with clients who self-refer and meet the program’s eligibility requirements. Treatment groups are dictated by jail housing locations. Services are assessment-based and trauma informed to meet individual client need. JET provides a holistic approach to individualized treatment considering the individual and their race, gender, trauma history, culture, sexual orientation, religion and spirituality.

The JET program supports individuals with mental health and substance use disorders to gain insight into thinking and behavior patterns that lead to incarceration. The program supports the development of prosocial skills for individuals to re-enter their communities in a more effective, prosocial manner by providing structure and classes such as:

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Sobriety Maintenance skills
  • GED Tutoring/GED Exam Preparation
  • Other volunteer-based classes
  • Community resource presentations
