Q. How do I set up my community service?
- A. Call 303-441-3690 for Boulder or 303-682-6854 for Longmont, to schedule an appointment. A case manager will be assigned and an appointment scheduled. You will be given a list of approved sites and a deadline to have your hours completed by.
Q. What if I already have a place I want to do my hours at?
- A. As long as the site is a NON- PROFIT organization most times they can be approved. You will be required to obtain a letter on the organizations letterhead with your name, total number of hours worked, dates service performed, a signature and phone number and the title of the person supervising you, as well as a copy of the IRS letter documenting the agency’s 501(c)(3) tax exempt number/status.
Q. Can I do my hours at my fraternity/sorority, political organization, or on line agency?
- A. No. The purpose of community service is to restore harm and give back to the community as a whole.
Q. Can I do my hours at my church?
- A. Yes if your church runs a food bank, clothing drives, community garden etc. that will benefit the community as a whole.
Q. Can monetary donations be accepted in lieu of working hours?
- A. No.
Q. Can I do my community service hours at an agency I already volunteer with?
- A. No
Q. My family runs a non-profit organization. Can my hours be done there?
- A. No
Q. Is there a fee to do community service?
- A. Yes there is a $100 fee. A minimum payment of at least $5 needs to be made prior to receiving your contract. The fee is in addition to court costs and must be paid to Community Justice Services. Payment plans are available upon request.
Q. If I have already completed some of the hours prior to meeting with a case manager, will those hours count?
- A. No
