The Boulder Enhanced Supervision Team (B.E.S.T.) is a program that can act as an alternative to a juvenile being in detention. With the guidance of the court, B.E.S.T. staff will conduct assessments of the juvenile and family to determine the ability/motivation for compliance to required supervision standards if the juvenile were to be released back into the community. Standard areas being assessed are: school behavior/attendance, drug and alcohol use, gang activity, use of free time, following rules in the home and community as well as the juvenile’s desire to comply with Conditions of Supervision which can include:
- House Arrest/Curfew
- Full time schedule comprised of school and/or employment
- Daily telephone check ins with supervising B.E.S.T. Officer
- Random face to face visits with a B.E.S.T. Officer
- Refraining from drug and alcohol use and compliance with random urinalysis to determine drug/alcohol use
- Ceasing gang activity
- Electric Home Monitoring (ankle monitor)
- Community Service
B.E.S.T. Supervision can be in place the entire time that the juvenile is completing court requirements; up to the point where there is a finding of guilt or innocence. Noncompliance to B.E.S.T. Conditions of Supervision can result in the juvenile being placed back into custody.
