VIN Inspections

Boulder County Motor Vehicle offices are open Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Closed Fridays. Appointments are required for in-person services. Registration renewals need to be completed online, by mail or drop box, or at a self-service kiosk and are not an in-person service.

Colorado DMV recently performed a statewide technology upgrade. Please know we anticipate longer transaction times as staff adjust to the new system. Thank you in advance for your patience if you are visiting our offices.

Mon 2/23: MV Express Kiosks are currently down statewide. We are awaiting an ETA on when they will be available. Additionally, online renewal services from the Colorado DMV are currently only working intermittently. Please visit our Registration Renewal page for drop-off / mail renewal options while the state works on resolving these issues. VIN Inspections

Vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections are required for the following:

  • New residents coming from out of state
  • Newly purchased vehicles with out-of-state titles (required only for used vehicles, not required for brand new vehicles with an MSO)
  • Title corrections
