The Senior Tax Worker Program is an opportunity for seniors 60 years or older to earn money equivalent to the Boulder County-designated portion of their property taxes up to $1,000. Seniors must own property in Boulder County and live at the location where the taxes are due.
The 2024 application process closed on June 15. The 2025 program will begin on Jan. 1.
How the Program Works
Senior property owners are hired as temporary workers for the county earning $14.42 per hour (adjusted for state-mandated 2024 rates). Participants are eligible to earn up to $1,000, depending on the Boulder County portion of their total property tax bill.
The Commissioners’ Office and the hiring department each contribute to the salary. The tax worker receives a monthly paycheck for all hours worked. Social Security and Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA) are deducted from this monthly paycheck. Wages earned are paid directly to the senior tax worker; all participants in the program are still responsible for paying their property taxes by the due date(s).
