How the Program Works

Senior property owners are hired as temporary workers for the county earning $15.16 per hour (adjusted for state-mandated 2026 rates). Participants are eligible to earn up to $1,000, depending on the Boulder County portion of their total property tax bill.

The Commissioners’ Office and the hiring department each contribute to the salary. The tax worker receives a monthly paycheck for all hours worked. Social Security and Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA) are deducted from this monthly paycheck. Wages earned are paid directly to the senior tax worker; all participants in the program are still responsible for paying their property taxes by the due date(s).
