Children ages 3 to 6 will love to visit the farm to learn about animals, plants, and agricultural life. “The Piñata the Farm Maiden Hung,” is a bilingual story for National Hispanic Heritage Month about the farm animals helping the farmer throw a fiesta. The program includes hands-on activities and a take-home craft. Afterwards, explore the farm and meet the farm animals from the story. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The Boulder County Commissioners and Parks & Open Space staff will present their annual Conservation Awards at the Ron Stewart Parks & Open Space building in Longmont on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 3-4 p.m. The Conservation Awards honor individuals or groups for outstanding contributions made to the preservation and protection of land-based environmental resources, promotion or preservation of cultural practices or cultural history, and community connections to open space. The commissioners will present the following awards: Land Conservation Award: Linda Holubar Sanabria for commitment to conservation by preserving the Spruce Gulch property, adding to thousands of acres of contiguous protected land in this area of the Rocky Mountain Foothills. Join the Boulder Mountainbike Alliance and Boulder County Parks & Open Space for a morning of riding the beginner and kid friendly trails at Heil Valley Ranch. This event will have mini-skills clinics, route suggestions, bike decorating materials, and educational information. This event is recommended for families with kids ages 3 to 10. Free loaner kids' mountain bikes will be available, or you can bring your own mountain bike and helmet. Guided rides with Boulder Mountainbike Alliance for all ages start at 9:30 and depart every half hour.
