Annual Report 2022

Thank you for taking the time and having the interest to look up the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office 2022 Annual Report. We hope it is an informative, concise, and interesting look at what we do and how we do it, as well as a compilation of data and reports that are of interest to the community, and important for preservation, research, etc.

It has been my honor to serve as a peace officer in this county for the past 43 years, and as the elected sheriff for the past 20 years. I have strived to serve a cause bigger than myself, and that has made for a very gratifying career. The voters in this county have supported me through five elections for office, three elections for term limit extensions, and several ballot questions. I am forever grateful for the trust the people have placed in me to hold this important elected office for so long.

We have made tremendous strides at the sheriff’s office with our culture of “Character First”, improved staffing, better facilities, better training, good policy, building a robust disaster management system, improving programs and mental health care for inmates at the jail, and hiring and promoting excellent people. The office is in good shape, and I can honestly say I feel like I am leaving the place better than I found it.

The office also bears tremendous responsibility. I was pleased to be able to hire and train my replacement, and to support him through the election. Fortunately, the role of undersheriff experienced a similar smooth transition. I feel like I am finishing well.
