Coroner Community Engagement
2026
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office is pleased to announce a new educational opportunity for high school and university students interested in pursuing careers in forensic science. The Coroner’s Forensic Science Academy, taking place on March 17, is a half-day immersive experience where curiosity meets cutting-edge technology.
Designed for currently enrolled students with a passion for forensic science, the academy offers a hands-on introduction to forensic public service careers including medicolegal death investigation, morgue operations, and family assistance services.
Participants will engage in a variety of learning environments, including a staged field response where they will document observations and contemplate investigative next steps, a simulated virtual autopsy demonstrating advanced lab techniques, and conversations with role players to simulate the interview and family support scenarios. This academy offers a rare opportunity for students to explore the dynamic intersection of science, investigation, and public service.
Interested students should apply online for the March 17 Forensic Science Academy.
For information on semester long internships visit Coroner Internship Opportunities. Call 303-441-3535 with questions, or email coroner@bouldercounty.gov.

Last year, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office hosted just over 500 attendees. We are planning a Jurassic theme this year, and are hard at work to make it dino-mighty! View the flyer for the Trunk or Treat Event.
Join Boulder County for a spectacular Trunk or Treat experience that’s all about fun, safety, and jaw-dropping excitement for kids 12 and under! This isn’t your average candy grab — meet real K9 heroes, explore the inside of massive fire trucks, and police cruisers, and get up close with cool tech like robots and buzzing drones! Dig for treat treasure in our very own Jurassic archaeological site!
Dinosaur costumes encouraged! Candy and non-food treats available. Enjoy this secure space for families to have a good time together. Get ready for an unforgettable Halloween celebration where the vehicles are decked out and the thrills are real — no tricks, just treats!
This is more than just a Halloween celebration, it’s a chance to learn about traffic and road safety in a fun and engaging way. It’s also an opportunity to meet local peace officers, deputy coroners, fire fighters, rangers, and public safety staff. This is a free family-friendly event and is appropriate for kids 12 and under. Wear your best dinosaur costume and come join the fun.
Entrance registration is offered in 15-minute increments. A timed registration is required for entry. Be sure to arrive based upon your registered time.
