Boulder County Motor Vehicle offices are open Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Offices are closed on Fridays. Appointments are required for in-person services. Registration renewals must be completed online, by mail or drop box, or at a self-service kiosk. Renewals are not an in-person service.

Motor Vehicle Appointments

Boulder County Motor Vehicle offices are for Boulder County residents only. If you live outside Boulder County, please contact your county’s motor vehicle office for assistance.

Our office does not issue driver licenses, permits, or ID cards. Visit the Colorado Department of Revenue for driver-related services.

Please read this before making an appointment:

  • Appointments are not available for registration renewals. You can renew your vehicle registration online, at a self-service MV Express kiosk, or by mail or drop box. See the Renewals page for details. You have a one-month grace period for renewals. If you plan to drive out of state, renew before your registration expires.
  • Do not make an appointment for driver licenses, permits, or IDs. This office does not provide driver licenses (including Real IDs), temporary driving permits, driving history records, or ID cards. Visit the Colorado Department of Revenue for driver-related services.
  • Schedule appointments for services that you cannot complete online or by mail. You can schedule an appointment for:
    • New titles, out-of-state titles, and title questions
    • Private-party vehicle sales and temporary permits from private-party sales
    • First-time registrations that could not be completed online or by mail
    • Transactions you have already attempted online but were unable to finish
  • If your vehicle has been impounded or you have an emergency, go to the Info Desk at any Boulder County Motor Vehicle office. You do not need an appointment.

Additional Appointment Information

  • When you register a vehicle for the first time, you may purchase a Keep Colorado Wild Pass for $29. The pass gives you access to Colorado State Parks.
  • Appointments are available Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., at all three offices: Boulder, Lafayette, and Longmont.
  • Before your appointment, review the requirements for your service. All services are listed on the Motor Vehicle website.

Same-day and next-day appointments may open up when staffing allows. If you do not see an available time, check back later.
