Caribou Ranch and Part of Mud Lake Will Close for Slash Pile Burns Tomorrow, Feb. 22

Flames and smoke may be visible.

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Parks & Open Space and the Sheriff’s Office Fire Management Program will conduct slash pile burns at Caribou Ranch and Mud Lake tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 22. All of Caribou Ranch and the Caribou Ranch Link, Chickadee, and Sherwood Forest trails at Mud Lake will be closed during ignition days. All other trails at Mud Lake, including the parking lot, will remain open. Smoke may be visible north of Nederland.

Pile burns are conducted to reduce the amount of fuel on the ground as a result of forest thinning operations. The fire crews try to burn when there is a winter weather system in the area and conditions are favorable. Operations are only conducted when there is sufficient snow cover to ensure safe fire operations and containment.

For additional information and to sign up for prescribed burn notifications, visit the Prescribed Burn Projects webpage. Residents may also sign up for park closure email or text alerts on the Trail Closures, Notices, Alerts, & Conditions webpage. For questions, contact Boulder County Parks & Open Space Forestry & Fire Group at BCForestry@bouldercounty.org.
