About the Crime Victim Assistance Program

The mission of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program is to ensure that victims of crime are treated with fairness, respect, and dignity, by providing comprehensive assistance and services to them throughout the criminal justice process in an effort to lessen the impact of crime on them and to support the prosecution in successfully seeking justice in criminal cases. • Ensure that the victim is aware of the DA’s plans regarding the direction of the case
  • Provide notification and preparation of victims and witnesses who have been subpoenaed for court appearances
  • Accompany victims and witnesses to court when needed

The District Attorney’s Office also administers the Victim Compensation Program for Boulder County, awarding financial assistance to victims of violent crimes for various expenses, and the Restitution Program which reimburses victims for other losses.

VALE (Victim Assistance and Law Enforcement) Grant Information

Crime Victim Compensation (CVC) of Boulder County is seeking a volunteer to fill an open Board member position. The CVC program disburses financial assistance to crime victims through a public fund that assists with crime-related, out-of-pocket expenses. Board members must reside in Boulder County and are appointed by the District Attorney to serve a three-year term with the possibility for reappointment.

The Board currently meets virtually on the third Monday of each month 2-4 pm, however, this can change based on Board member availability and needs. CVC staff sends crime summaries, requests for assistance, treatment plans and any other documents to the Board a week prior to each meeting. Board members should allow time (approximately 2-4 hours/month) to review the claims/documents at home so questions can be answered, discussions can be had, and decisions can be made at the monthly meeting.
