Emergency Medical Dispatching

An Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) program has been recognized as an essential component of an effective EMS system. Boulder County Communications dispatchers receive certification through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED). This is an internationally recognized program used by communication centers throughout the world. The Academy’s board-approved medical protocols provide dispatchers with quality instructions to the provide citizens during medical emergencies.

In addition, BCC dispatchers are CPR certified through the American Heart Association.

Emergency Medical Dispatching does not diagnose medical conditions, but can provide basic instructions to triage symptoms until paramedics or other assistance arrives.
