DC-16-0001: Amendments related to Article 13 - Signs

Docket DC-16-0001, proposed Boulder County Land Use Code amendments related to Article 13, regulating the number, type, location, physical dimensions, and design of signs in unincorporated Boulder County.

On January 21, 2016, the Board of County Commissioners authorized staff to pursue text amendments to the Boulder County Land Use Code in Docket DC-16-0001 to draft and process amendments regarding the sign code.

Background

These proposed changes were necessary to perform a general update to Land Use Code Article 13 and ensure compliance with the recent U.S Supreme Court ruling in Reed v. Town of Gilbert. The amendments would contain changes to the County’s method for noncommercial sign regulation while continuing to protect aesthetic qualities by preventing visual clutter, protecting scenic views, and preserving Boulder County’s rural character. Staff will review the provisions of the Article, including definitions, draft new or modify existing language, and remove any unnecessary or outdated sections. Staff will review any proposed amendments for consistency throughout the Land Use Code and other amendments related to the Sign Code update may occur in other Articles of the Land Use Code, such as 4-116.
