This Week’s Wildfires

To receive this information in another language, please contact Gloria Handyside ghandyside@bouldercounty.gov 303-441-1622.

Thank you to all of the firefighters who have worked, and continue to work, tirelessly to protect our community and neighboring communities against wildfires. Thank you as well to all the first responders who continue to support the firefighting and life safety efforts and to all the first responders on standby, who are ready to help when needed. Our thoughts are with the injured firefighters, and we wish them a quick recovery.

Sadly this week’s fires have taken six homes in Boulder County, as well as homes in neighboring counties, and one death is currently being investigated. We offer our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to everyone impacted by the fires, especially those experiencing trauma and loss.

As Boulder County and the Front Range continue to face the devastation of wildfires, we are reminded yet again of the enduring power of partnership working at local, state, and federal levels.

The Boulder Office of Disaster Management (ODM) is itself a partnership between Boulder County and the City of Boulder, which coordinates support for disaster response. County and City staff, as well other community and federal partners, have been working behind the scenes since Monday and to each of them, we extend our thanks as well. These individuals come together in the Emergency Operations Center to keep our community informed, our first responders fed, our residents and animals safe, our evacuation orders issued, and so much more.

As commissioners, we do not issue communications during initial disaster response because we support clear and targeted emergency communications coming from one source to avoid confusion. But please know we are here, behind the scenes, supporting Sheriff Johnson and the ODM where we can, and preparing the county for recovery.

As ever, the Boulder County community continues to show resilience and generosity in the face of adversity, and we are proud to represent you.
