Suspect in multi-county crime spree arrested

Several law enforcement agencies joined forces to investigate

Boulder County, Colo. - Since the beginning of October 2019, detectives from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Estes Park Police Department and Louisville Police Department joined forces to investigate several motor vehicle thefts, burglaries, identity thefts and other associated crimes.

Detectives were able to identify Forrest Gillard, date of birth 3/23/1986, as the suspect in at least four criminal cases, occurring within a three-day period. The cases included two from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, one from the Estes Park Police Department and one from the Louisville Police Department.

On October 5, 2019, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office issued an affidavit arrest warrant for Gillard which included Louisville Police Department’s auto theft case and a search warrant was issued for Gillard’s residence in Ward.

The most significant charges in the affidavit are:

  • One count of burglary
  • Three counts of motor vehicle theft
  • Identity theft
  • Over $30,000 of theft
  • Possession of weapon by previous offender
  • Several felony and misdemeanor bond violations
  • Several protection order violations

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office recovered a large amount of stolen property, one stolen vehicle and seized a large enclosed trailer during the execution of the search warrant at Gillard’s residence. Gillard was not apprehended during the search warrant.

On October 9, 2019, the Estes Park Police Department filed an affidavit arrest warrant for Gillard. The most significant charges in the affidavit are:

  • One count of burglary
  • Over $100,000 of theft

On October 10, 2019, the Glenwood Springs Police Department apprehended Gillard in a hotel room without incident. Gillard was arrested on the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office affidavit arrest warrant and additionally charged with vehicle trespass and several financial crimes by the Glenwood Springs Police Department. Gillard is currently being detained in the Garfield County Jail.
