Rainbow Elders' Newsletter-September 2019

For Boulder County's LGBTQ+ older adults, their allies and the professionals who serve them

Out Boulder County's annual Boulder Pridefest is Sunday, September 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Central Park in Boulder. Please stop by to see the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging as we celebrate Pride by sharing information about our LGBTQ+ programs Project Visibility, Rainbow Elders and Rainbow Connections. You are also encouraged to play our Spin-the-Wheel LGBTQ+ Trivia complete with candy and prizes. For a complete list of all of Pride week's activities, please visit Out Boulder County.

50+ LGBTQ+ Pride Mixer

Please join Out Boulder County and the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging for the 50+ LGBTQ Mixer at Under the Sun (627 S Broadway Street, 80305) in Boulder Thursday, September 5 from 6-8 p.m. Come enjoy the company of fellow members of the LGBTQ+ and Allied Community and have some yummy food and refreshments while we celebrate Pride together! We are doing a special shout out for those who are 50 years and older but as usual everyone is welcome as we honor our diversity together.

We are in the middle of our pilot phase of our Rainbow Connections volunteer program to combat social isolation and create community for LGBTQ+ older adults in Boulder County. Volunteers are currently matched with recipients in need of phone and/or in-person connection from another LGBTQ+ or allied community member. Meetings are going well and both volunteers and recipients report more connection and less isolation. Volunteers report connecting with their matches through conversation, activity, and experience. We look forward to growing the program, so if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please apply here. If you, yourself are interested in being matched with a volunteer, please contact Michael Chifalo at
