Mother & Son Injured in a Rollover ATV Accident

Mother airlifted to local hospital due to major injuries

Boulder County, Colo. -

On June 10, 2022 at approximately 9:17 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of an injury accident on Bunce School Road, near Allenspark, in unincorporated Boulder County. The Boulder County Communications Center was told that a four-person All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) had rolled over and two of the passengers had possibly sustained broken arms.

Once on-scene, we learned a family from Alabama had rented the ATV from a privately-owned business in Estes Park, CO. A 44-year-old male was driving the ATV, with family members as passengers, when he lost control and the ATV rolled over on the passenger side. When the ATV rolled, a 41-year-old female and her five-year-old son were pinned under the ATV. The 44-year-old male was able to get the ATV back on its wheels and drive the injured parties to State Hwy 7.

Upon hearing the severity of the accident, a Norther Colorado MedEvac Helicopter was put on ground standby. An ambulance from Estes Park Fire was also dispatched. Medical personnel learned the female had a compound fracture in her upper right arm and was having severe bleeding. The five-year-old also had a similar, but less severe fracture of their upper right arm. A nurse, who was not involved in ATV accident, was able to provide a splints to both the female and child’s arm fractures. The female was airlifted by Norther Colorado MedEvac to a local hospital due to the severity of her injury; the child was transported by Estes Park Fire to a local hospital.

Personnel from Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County Sheriff’s Emergency Services, Allenspark Fire, Estes Park Fire, and Norther Colorado MedEvac were involved in this incident.

This is documented under Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Case 22-02678.
