Male arrested following early-morning shooting in the Town of Superior

21-year-old victim in stable condition at area hospital

Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, June 11, 2022 at approximately 3:36 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received notification from a local hospital that they were treating a patient suffering from a gunshot wound. The patient was described as being in critical condition and was transported by air ambulance to another hospital for a higher level of care. The victim, a 21-year-old-male, underwent surgery and is now reported to be in stable condition in an intensive care unit at an area hospital.

The circumstances surrounding how the victim was shot were suspicious and detectives with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were called in to investigate the situation further. Through interviews with numerous witnesses, it was determined that the shooting happened during a small party at an apartment located at 1995 E. Coalton Road, in the Town of Superior, Boulder County, Colorado. Partygoers told investigators that people were drinking alcohol and playing with a handgun when the victim was accidentally shot. Two of the witnesses tended to the victim and transported him to the hospital, they remained at the hospital and were cooperative with investigators. The suspect who fired the weapon fled from the scene immediately after the shooting.

The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Angel Serratos, a resident of the home where the shooting occurred. He was contacted at a home in Commerce City, Colorado at around 10:30 a.m. and was taken into custody without incident. Serratos was booked and lodged on the following charges: 2nd Degree Assault, a class 4 felony; tampering with evidence, a class 6 felony; and prohibited use of a weapon, a class 1 misdemeanor.

Serratos is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
