Male arrested after taking a child without holding parental rights

Boulder County, Colo. - At approximately 10:45 a.m. on May 23, 2023, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office was notified of an incident on Chute Road in unincorporated Boulder County. The caller reported that a family member, identified as 33-year-old Nicholas Antley, was on site and forcibly taking a 5-year-old child without holding parental rights.

Upon receiving this call, deputies responded to the scene. Mr. Antley had already fled the area with the child by the time deputies arrived. Mr. Antley’s vehicle information was aired to surrounding law enforcement agencies and a short pursuit involving Boulder County Sheriff's Office deputies, Westminster Police Department officers, and Broomfield Police Department officers took place.

The inter-agency effort led to the successful apprehension of the suspect in Broomfield. Mr. Antley has since been booked and lodged at the Boulder County Jail on multiple charges, including kidnapping, possession of narcotics, and child abuse.

We are relieved to report that the 5-year-old child involved was found uninjured and was safely released to other family members at the scene.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Westminster Police Department, Broomfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and the North Metro Fire Department for their assistance in this matter.

The case remains under investigation and there is no current threat to the public. Further details will be released as they become available.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office associated case number is: 22-02730.
