Lightning Strike Victim in Superior is Unidentified

Boulder County, Colo. - On the evening of April 9, 2026, at approximately 5:39 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1000 block of Lasalle Street in the Town of Superior to assist with a report of a female who had been struck by lightning while on a walking path behind Lasalle Street.

Bystanders reported hearing a loud boom and then located the female lying beneath a tree that had been struck by lightning. She was unresponsive, and bystanders immediately began administering CPR.

When first responders arrived, the female had no detectable pulse and was not breathing. After continued resuscitation efforts, she regained a faint pulse and began breathing on her own but remained unconscious.

Personnel from Mountain View Fire Rescue provided advanced medical care and transported the female to a Boulder County hospital. She was later airlifted to a hospital in the Denver metro area for further treatment.

At the time of this release, the female has regained a regular heart rate and is breathing independently; however, she remains in critical condition.

The female’s identity remains unknown. She was not carrying identification, and her cell phone was severely damaged and inoperable. Multiple efforts to identify her, including fingerprinting and review of missing persons reports in Boulder County, have not been successful.

The female is believed to be approximately 20 to 30 years old, approximately 5’5” tall, white, and 120 pounds. She has red or auburn-colored hair. She was wearing a green running shirt and black striped running shorts.
