Former Boulder County District Attorney – Alex Hunter – Dies at 89
Boulder County, Colo. - It is with deep respect and sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander M. Hunter. Hunter served as Boulder County District Attorney from 1973 to 2001, holding the position for more than a quarter century.
Hunter was a leader in consumer protection, founding the Consumer Protection Unit within the District Attorney’s Office to investigate, mediate, and prosecute consumer fraud. He was also a tireless advocate for victims’ rights. One of his most innovative and lasting contributions was the creation of the Victim Witness Unit, the first of its kind in Colorado and among the first in the nation. This unit continues to provide vital support to crime victims, offering emotional assistance, case information, and guidance through the court process.

Alex had a great impact on our staff and all of Boulder County. Throughout his life, he put service above self. His commitment to justice guided this office and he truly loved this community. From the first moment that I met him, it was clear that he cared deeply about the justice system. His passing is a loss for Colorado. May he rest in peace."
