Fires at the Abandoned Sugar Mill in Boulder County CO.

Fire investigators determine fires were suspicious and under investigation.

Boulder County, Colo. -

On December 9, 2020 at 6:00 PM the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded to the abandoned Sugar Mill located at 11939 Sugar Mill Rd, Boulder County, Colorado for reports of large visible flames. Longmont Fire was first on scene and immediately began fire suppression to an engulfed outdoor debris pit approximately 25’ by 50’. The fire was to the south of the Old Sugar Mill storage area, located on the southwest corner of Roger’s Rd and Sugar Mill Rd.

While fighting this fire, a second indoor fire was discovered in the main building that was approximately 10’ by 10’. Mountain View Fire later arrived on scene and took over incident command and the subsequent fire investigation. The cause of the fires are suspicious and the investigation will continue tomorrow (December 10, 2020). Due to known environmental hazards on the property no law enforcement personnel went beyond the gated perimeter. Both fires were extinguished, there were no injuries, and the cause, origin, total burn area and extent of the damage are unknown at this time.

Longmont Fire Department, Longmont Police Department, Longmont Emergency Unit, Mountain View Fire Department, and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office all responded to this incident.
