Detectives investigating man’s death at the Rabbit Mountain open space trailhead

The body of a 27-year-old man was discovered in a vehicle in the parking lot late this afternoon

Lyons, Colo. - This afternoon, just after 4:00 p.m., the sheriff's communications center received a 911 call from a man who was in the parking lot of the Rabbit Mountain open space trailhead in the 15,000 block of N. 55th Street. The man told dispatchers he had just parked his car when he noticed the vehicle next to him was running and someone appeared to be slumped over inside.

Deputies responded to the scene and found that the sole occupant of the vehicle, believed to be a 27-year-old man, was deceased. The initial investigation suggests that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No foul play is suspected.

Sheriff's detectives, along with investigators from the Boulder County Coroner's Office, are continuing to investigate the man's death. The coroner's office is responsible to confirm the man's identity and officially determine the cause and manner of his death.

The case number associated with this investigation is 19-1937.
