Climber rescued from the First Flatiron at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado

Boulder County, Colo. -

On Friday, August 21, 2020, at approximately 19:48 the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a call from one of two climbers, stating they needed assistance getting off the rock. The climbers, 25 and 32 years old and both from Boulder, were approximately two thirds of the way up the rock when one of them began to feel ill and could not continue to climb.

Members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group hiked up the north side of the First Flatiron and accessed the rock face. From there they were able to assist the two climbers off the rock and back to the Bluebell Shelter. The climbers did not need additional medical care.

The rescue took approximately four hours.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountian Parks.
