Boulder County Youth Mentoring Program is seeking mature adult volunteers – Apply by Feb. 21

Adult volunteers provide important one-on-one attention to teens, ages 11-15, who have become involved with Boulder County services, or been referred by a school counselor. You will meet once per week typically after school, evenings or weekend hours, for one year (except during pre-planned vacations) to be an active listener and help these kids navigate the challenges that all teenagers face. This is time for a young person to get individual attention they may not receive elsewhere in their lives. You could play a sport, get a meal together, attend a movie, or learn something new – the options are up to the two of you.

When you were younger, did you know how to study for a test, or figure out social issues at school? Do you remember wanting a phone of your own, or looking for a part time job? Who did you talk with about your dreams and fears? You have experience now, and can be a great resource to a teen looking for a mentor.

The application deadline – Thursday, Feb. 21.

You must be at least 21 years old, have a clean driving history and agree to a background check and fingerprinting. Due to the requirements of the program, if you travel more than 2 months each year you will not be accepted. A mandatory training for vetted applicants will take place Tuesday February 26, 8:30 a.m.-noon, at the Boulder Justice Center.

To register or for more information, please email Anne at abrubacher@bouldercounty.org, or call 303-441-4890. More details about the program are available at http://bit.ly/BoCoYouthMentor
