Boulder County offers funding for Zero Waste programs

County will allocate up to $15,000 per project to organizations for reuse, recycling, and composting programs

Boulder County, Colo – The Boulder County Public Works’ Resource Conservation Division is allocating up to $15,000 per project for its 2023 Zero Waste Funding Program. Established in 1997, this funding has awarded over one million dollars for education and infrastructure initiatives that promote waste reduction and diversion from the landfill. Zero Waste Funding Program applications are now being accepted and must be received by Resource Conservation by 2 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022 to be considered. Project funding will begin in January 2023.

Zero Waste Funding provides an opportunity for businesses and organizations to contribute to Boulder County’s vision of becoming a zero-waste community. This vision is outlined in the County’s Zero Waste Action Plan. In addition to the programs supported in prior years, Boulder County is also looking for programs focused on circular economy progress and supporting the newly passed legislation in Colorado including: focus on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR); plastic pollution reduction; and, contamination in organic waste diversion. The county will continue to accept and consider applications for programs that fall outside of this limited focus.

The minimum funding amount available for a project is $1,000, with a maximum of $15,000. Local governments, non-profit organizations, school districts, schools, private companies, and individuals may apply as long as the scope of work is in Boulder County or the City and County of Broomfield and insurance requirements are met.
