Apparent suicide at the Jail

Jail inmate apparently committed suicide, ongoing investigation with Sheriff's Office Detectives and Boulder County Coroner's Office.

Boulder County, Colo. - On May 27th at approximately 2:48 a.m. patrol deputies responded to the Boulder County Jail regarding a male in medical distress. A deputy working in one of the inmate modules at the jail was notified by an inmate that another male inmate (name being withheld pending notification of next of kin) was not breathing in his bunk. The deputy immediately investigated and found the inmate in distress. The inmate, was found unconscious in his cell with a bag over his head, appearing to have suffocated. The deputy called for assistance and was quickly joined by other deputies and medical personnel from the jail.

Deputies and medical staff began administering life-saving resuscitative measures, including CPR. Fire personnel from the Boulder Fire Department and medical personnel from American Medical Response (AMR) arrived and took over providing medical aid and performing Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Unfortunately, all efforts were unsuccessful, and the inmate was pronounced deceased.

Investigators with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene to continue the investigation.


The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
