A Commitment to Value, Respect, and Support All Individuals

At the start of the year, we reaffirmed our commitment to our strategic priorities and to value, respect, and support all individuals as we serve the people of Boulder County.
The people of Boulder County have a long history of coming together in support of each other – during natural disasters over decades, in flood and wildfire response and recovery, in the aftermath of the King Soopers Shooting, and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The random acts of kindness, the empathy, the community spirit, and fortitude of Boulder County residents and staff are just a few of the reasons why we are proud to serve the people of Boulder County and lead the Boulder County Government.
As we reflect on the events of the last couple of weeks and we look to the future, we want to share with the community and county staff that our belief in the empathy and fortitude of our community remains unwavering. As leaders in this community, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support the safety and well-being of all people in Boulder County, irrespective of race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, socio-economic background, political affiliation, age, religion, body shape, size, or ability. This commitment is enshrined in county policy.
For the avoidance of doubt: we see how the rights and safety of immigrants and members of the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender people, are being threatened across the country, and we stand in solidarity with individuals in those groups – both inside and outside of the county.
Under our leadership, Boulder County will continue to work to build a diverse and inclusive community that does not tolerate any act of racism, oppression, intimidation, harassment, or racial, ethnic or religious profiling toward another individual. We will continue our support for the civil rights of our population, regardless of immigration status, and the distinction and separation between local law enforcement authority and federal immigration authority.
Through awareness and heritage months, including this month’s Black History Month, we will continue to celebrate the contributions of the diverse groups that make our county strong, successful, and resilient – while acknowledging that the history of these groups is American history and includes both successes and tragedies.
From ensuring that someone keeps their job while on medical or maternity leave to making sure that people of all abilities have access to our programs and services, diversity, equity and inclusion programs and initiatives are not new or trendy. These initiatives work to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent historically marginalized or excluded folks from fully contributing. Continuing our work towards equitable outcomes for residents, staff, and workers is not just the morally right thing to do, it is also the economically smart thing to do, and we have no intention of wavering from this work.
We will continue to work alongside our state and federal representatives to monitor changes and announcements that affect our work in government. And we will continue to work tirelessly for the people and staff of Boulder County.

- District Attorney Michael Dougherty has reaffirmed his office’s commitment to protecting the rights of every person in our community and pledged to build on his office’s work with organizations, such as Rocky Mountain Equality (formerly Out Boulder County), to enhance the reporting and handling of hate crimes, ensuring that victims receive the support needed and that the community remains vigilant against hate and bias.

Bajo nuestro liderazgo, el Condado de Boulder continuará trabajando para construir una comunidad diversa e inclusiva que no tolererá ningún acto de racismo, opresión, intimidación, acoso o perfil racial, étnico o religioso hacia otro individuo. Continuaremos brindando nuestro apoyo a los derechos civiles de nuestra población, independientemente de su estatus migratorio, y a la distinción y separación entre la autoridad local de aplicación de la ley y la autoridad federal de inmigración.

Ser inclusivos crea oportunidades para residentes, la comunidad y empleados prosperen. No solo es lo moralmente correcto, sino también es económicamente inteligente, y no tenemos intención de apartarnos de este trabajo.
Nosotras continuaremos trabajando junto a nuestros representantes estatales y federales para monitorear los cambios y anuncios que afectan nuestro trabajo en el gobierno. Y continuaremos trabajando incansablemente para la gente y los empleados del Condado de Boulder.
