64 year old male dies while hiking in Boulder County, Colorado

64 year old hiker dies while hiking near Lazy Z Road and Winiger Ridge Trail

Boulder County, Colo. - On July 10th, 2019, at about 3:00 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a call about a medical emergency in the area of Lazy Z Road and Winiger Ridge Trail in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. The reporting party, the son of the victim, reported his father had collapsed and was unresponsive while the two were hiking in an area off the trail.

Rescue personnel, comprised of Rocky Mountain Rescue Group (RMR), the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Boulder County Emergency Services, the Boulder County Coroner's Office, Coal Creek Fire Department and the Gilpin County Ambulance Service were dispatched to the area and were able to locate the victim and his son. The 64 year old male victim was unresponsive and not breathing. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and the victim was declared deceased by on-scene medical personnel.

The identity of the victim is being with held until next of kin can be notified. This incident is being jointly investigated by the Boulder County Coroner's Office and Boulder County Sheriff's Office. At this time, there is nothing suspicious about this incident.
