Fostering an Inclusive Work Environment

Boulder County is a family-friendly workplace dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment for all employees. We prohibit unlawful discrimination against applicants and employees on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, genetic information, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.

Moreover, the Boulder County Commissioners, along with other elected officials and leaders in the organization, have made it clear through the passing of multiple resolutions and a Cultural Responsiveness and Inclusion Road Map that Boulder County is an open, welcoming, and inclusive community.

Creating a more inclusive hiring process

In an effort to be more inclusive, Boulder County updated a few of its job application questions in September 2017. Previously, questions regarding race and gender included the option “other,” which we now believe to be inappropriate and offensive to potential applicants.

By updating the categories, we believe we will attract a more diverse workforce, and promote positive discourse on race, ethnicity, and gender identity in the community and beyond.

As always, the county does not base any hiring decision on an applicant’s response to any demographic questions. The questions are meant to demonstrate our commitment to our “We are Boulder County” vision, and responses are used only to track our workforce’s diversity.
