Male arrested after threatening others with handgun and eluding deputies

Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, September 6 at approximately 6:15 p.m., deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 400 block of 5th Avenue in the Town of Lyons for a welfare check on an 18 year old male who was reported to have possibly taken an unknown variety of controlled substances and was acting erratically. When deputies arrived they learned that the male had left the residence but was believed to still be driving around in the area in an unknown vehicle.

At 7:20 p.m., Boulder County Deputies were dispatched to a felony menacing that had just occurred in the area of North Foothills Hwy and Lefthand Canyon Dr. It was reported that a male party had threatened another motorist with a handgun. Multiple deputies responded to the area but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect vehicle.

Information was later received that indicated the male from the welfare check was the same male involved in the felony menacing and he was driving a tan sedan with out of state license plates. Other Boulder County law enforcement agencies were alerted to the situation and to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle.

At approximately 9:55 p.m., officers with the Boulder Police Department were dispatched to a felony menacing that had just occurred in the area of Broadway and Pearl in the City of Boulder. It was reported that a male in a tan sedan with out of state plates had pointed a handgun at pedestrians crossing the street. The vehicle then fled the area northbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed.

Boulder County Communications received reports that the vehicle had continued north from Broadway and onto North Foothills Hwy toward Lyons and then toward Longmont on Highway 66. Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies were attempting to catch up with the suspect vehicle while trying to coordinate efforts to get the vehicle stopped. Boulder County Deputies caught up to the suspect vehicle at Highway 66 and Main Street in Longmont and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle fled east bound at a high rate of speed. Officers from the Longmont Police Department were able to successfully deploy “stop sticks,” which deflated multiple tires on the suspect vehicle. The suspect, identified as Christian Tull, stopped his vehicle and surrendered to law enforcement without any further incident.

Tull was booked and lodged at the Boulder County Jail on the charges of: Unlawful Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance; Felony Menacing; Felony Vehicular Eluding; Reckless Endangerment, a Class 3 misdemeanor; and multiple other traffic charges. Tull will also face additional charges from the Boulder Police Department. For more information on those charges, contact the Boulder Police Department. Troopers with the Colorado State Patrol also provided assistance during this incident. Tull’s photograph is not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
