Stranded climbers rescued from the Bastille

Boulder County, Colo. - On Tuesday, September 3, 2019, about 8:00 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about two stuck climbers in Eldorado Canyon State Park, located in unincorporated Boulder County.

A male and female climber in their early 30’s had been climbing an area known as the Bastille in Eldorado Canyon State Park. Upon completing their route, the pair chose to rappel back down. As they rappelled down, they realized the end of their rope had become lodged in the rocks and they were unable to free the rope. Because of this, the two climbers were stranded and had to call for help.

Rescue personnel arrived on scene and located the two climbers, who were about 100 feet above the roadway. It took the team about 90 minutes to get someone to the stranded climbers and assist them off the wall. The climbers were lowered back down to the roadway uninjured.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the rescue by the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
