Party rescued from the Second Flatiron
Boulder County, Colo. - On Monday, August 12, 2019 at approximately 11:27 a.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a male party was stuck on the lower portion of the Second Flatiron just outside the City of Boulder, in Boulder County due to climbing without proper equipment.
The incident was reported via 911 to the Boulder County Communications Center from City of Boulder Open Space workers who were hiking in the area. The Open Space workers stayed in the area to guide rescuers in.
Members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group hiked to the scene with technical climbing equipment and lowered a rescuer to the stuck party. Both the rescuer and the stuck party were lowered to the ground. The rescue, due the position of the stuck party on the rock, took approximately four hours.
Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
