72 Year Old Male Injured While Hiking

Boulder County, Colo. -

On Sunday, August 4, 2019 at approximately 9:05 a.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a 72 year old male hiker who had fallen approximately 25 feet off the side of the Royal Arch Trail and was injured.

The hiker was returning from a hike and was approximately one quarter of a mile from the Bluebell Shelter when he tripped and fell down the steep embankment. The incident was reported via 911 by two bystanders who witnessed the incident. The two bystanders assisted the patient until rescue personnel from City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group arrived on scene. The patient climbed back up the hill side with assistance from rescuers and was then carried in a litter to American Medical Response (AMR) medics waiting at Bluebell Shelter. AMR transported the patient to Boulder Community Health with non-life threatening injuries. The rescue took approximately one hour and fifty minutes.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, American Medical Response (AMR), and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
