Cause of crash believed to be from collision with a deer

Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, July 27, 2019 at approximately 8:33 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of an injured bicyclist in the area of 4000 Sunshine Canyon Drive in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. The reporting party, an off-duty firefighter, had come across the injured cyclist, who appeared to have been riding by herself. The cyclist, a 60-year-old female resident of Boulder, was unconscious at the time she was found. Rescue personnel initially placed a medical transport helicopter on standby, but ultimately transported the patient via ground ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Due to the severity of her injuries, the victim’s identifying information is not being released at this time.

A preliminary investigation of the scene and evidence has lead deputies to believe that the crash was caused by the victim colliding with a deer. At this time, it does not appear that any motor vehicles were involved in the crash and there are no suspicious circumstances.
