Arrest of two suspects for 67 felony charges
Boulder County, Colo. - Last summer, detectives from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Boulder Police Department joined forces to investigate a series of motor vehicle thefts, residential burglaries, vehicle trespasses and thefts.
Detectives were able to identify 26-year-old male Tanner Valdez and 25-year-old Matthew Moore as suspects and link 39 criminal cases to Valdez and Moore throughout Boulder County and cases from agencies outside of Boulder County.
On July 10, 2019 affidavit arrest warrants were issued for Valdez and Moore for 67 felony charges and 20 misdemeanor charges. The 39 criminal cases included 20 cases from the Boulder Police Department, 11 cases from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, one case from the Erie Police Department, one case from the Lafayette Police Department, one case from the Nederland Police Department, three cases from the Broomfield Police Department, one case from the Golden Police Department and one case from the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
The most significant charges in the affidavit are:
- One count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance
- 10 counts of motor vehicle theft
- 11 counts of burglary
- 27 counts of vehicle trespass
- 16 counts of stolen license plates
- 28 counts of theft with a total theft amount over $35,000
- 10 counts of identity theft
- One count of possession of a weapon by previous offender
- One count of burglary tools
- Traffic charges that included vehicular eluding
Valdez is currently detained in the Colorado Department of Corrections serving a five year sentence for motor vehicle theft and other property crimes. Valdez is awaiting transport to the Boulder County Jail to face the charges in the affidavit.
Moore was arrested by the Wheat Ridge Police Department on July 17, 2019 in a vehicle that was stolen out of Erie, Colorado. At the time of arrest Moore had five felony arrest warrants and is currently being detained at the Boulder County Jail.
In all of these cases, all vehicles that were stolen or trespassed were left unlocked with the keys in the vehicle or had a spare key hidden inside the vehicles and valuables were left in the vehicles. In all the burglaries garages were either left open or unlocked.
All of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office cases and other agencies cases are documented under 18-4824 and the Boulder Police Department documented their cases under P18-10403.
