Climbers rescued from 1st Flatiron
Climbers were stuck due to slick conditions from surprise thunderstorm
Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, June 7, 2019 at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a 911 call about stuck climbers on the face of the 1st Flatiron. The two climbers, both 25-year-old males, originally thought they were on the 2nd Flatiron. A thunderstorm had moved through the area while they were in the middle of climbing and they got stuck approximately two-thirds of the way up the wall, as the rocks were too slick for them to proceed.
Personnel from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group (RMRG) responded to assist the climbers. Rescuers from RMRG rappelled down to the stuck climbers, confirmed that they were not injured, and then assisted them down to safety. Both males made it down to the ground at around 6:55 p.m., and rescue personnel cleared from the scene by around 7:30 p.m.
The associated case number for this incident is 19-3165.
