Hiker rescued near Royal Arch Trail

22-year-old male fell approximately 30 feet while climbing along Royal Arch Trail

Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, May 25, 2019 at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a report of a fallen climber in the area of the Flatirons in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. The caller said that a 22-year-old male had fallen approximately 30 feet from a rock near the area of the Royal Arch Trail. Rescuers later learned that the male had been hiking the Royal Arch Trail with some friends. At one point, they scrambled up a rock to eat lunch. When they were climbing back down, the male slipped and tumbled about 30 feet.

Rescue personnel from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Boulder Fire, and AMR ambulance responded to assist. By 4:46 p.m., rescuers got the patient down to the waiting ambulance. The male suffered only minor injuries and was transported to Boulder Community Hospital for treatment.
