A message from the Boulder County Commissioners
Official election results continue to roll in thanks to the tireless efforts of people across Boulder County, the state, and the country. We extend our deepest thanks to all of the county clerks, employees, and volunteers who have worked and continue to work to protect free and fair elections. Thank you to everyone who did their civic duty and turned up to vote.
In Colorado there were a number of ballot measures, which required people to ask themselves what and who they value. In Boulder County, voters agreed that the rights of individuals and respect for basic human dignity and the rule of law is paramount – even when statewide voting didn’t reflect these values.
Ballot Measures 134 and 135 Fail in Boulder County, Likely to Pass in Colorado
Although the final vote count on ballot measures 134 and 135 is still to be called, it looks like the majority of Colorado voters were in favor. This adds to a growing number of legislative attacks on transgender people and their individual rights and freedoms. Phrased in a misleading and vague way, these measures give the government more power over deeply personal decisions that should belong to families. Instead of supporting children and families, the ballot measures have far-reaching consequences for government intrusion into private decisions about healthcare, education, and participation in everyday life. To the individuals, families, and allies impacted by these ballot measures, we – and the majority of voters in Boulder County – stand with you and will continue to stand with you.
Amendment 81 Fails in Colorado and Overwhelmingly in Boulder County
Amendment 81, which would have interfered with law enforcement’s primary focus on the enforcement of state and local laws, was rejected by Colorado voters and overwhelmingly rejected by Boulder County voters. As we said in May 2025, we support human rights and due process of law for everyone. As elected officials, we uphold our oath of office. We are proud to support and follow federal, state, and local laws, including the U.S. Constitution. The same U.S. Constitution, which includes the 10th Amendment, that prevents the federal government from forcing states to use their own resources to enforce federal statutes, including immigration laws.
We are proud to serve the people of Boulder County. We are grateful to you for turning up for everyone in our community – especially those without a vote.
