Jay Road Median Between Northbound and southbound CO 119/Diagonal Highway to Close Feb. 28 to March 10

Temporary closure required to build bikeway underpass for CO 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Improvements Project

Boulder County, Colo. – CDOT has announced that the Jay Road median, between northbound and southbound CO 119/Diagonal Highway, will be closed to all modes of transportation beginning starting Friday, Feb. 28 at 9 p.m. through Monday, March. 10. Jay Road and CO 119 will be a right-in-right-out intersection during this time. CDOT’s announcement includes maps of the detours, shown below.

This closure is required for crews to install the bikeway underpass at Jay Road. Motorists and cyclists will have separate detours.

Building the bikeway underpass at Jay Road will provide a designated crossing for cyclists and pedestrians. The bikeway underpass will help increase traffic safety and efficiency and reduce the overall risk of traffic incidents at this intersection.

To construct the underpass efficiently with minimal impacts to travelers, the project team decided to close the Jay Road median entirely for about a week while travelers use alternate routes. The alternative would be continuously shifting barriers and traffic flow around the work for multiple weeks, extending the length of the overall impacts to the Jay Road and CO 119 intersection for all roadway users.

Background and More Information

The project includes construction of a nine-mile commuter bikeway, Bus Rapid Transit stations for faster and more reliable bus service, and safety improvements at intersections. Construction on the project is expected to be completed in 2027.
