B Strong Ride and Ride for Magnus Bicycle Events in Boulder County August 10 and 11

Travelers should expect delays between 10 a.m.-noon on Sunday, and use alternate routes when available


Boulder County, Colo. - This weekend two cycling events will be taking place in Boulder County: B Strong Ride on Saturday, August 10, and Ride for Magnus on Sunday, August 11. Please expect to encounter higher volumes of cyclists on roadways in the county throughout the weekend.

Both events are approved and permitted through Special Event Permits from the county.

B Strong Ride on Saturday, August 10

There are no road closures for the B Strong Ride on Saturday. Riders will depart Celestial Seasonings starting at 7 a.m. and fan out across three routes in the foothills and adjacent plains. Affected roads include Jay Rd., U.S. 36, Left Hand Canyon Dr., CO 72 (Peak to Peak Hwy.), CO 7 (South St. Vrain Dr.), CO 66 (Ute Highway), 75th St., Nelson Rd., 65th St., St Vrain Rd., Niwot Rd., and 63rd St. View map of the routes.

Ride for Magnus on Sunday, August 11

The Ride for Magnus will be held on Sunday to mark the anniversary of the death of Magnus White, a 17-year-old cyclist from Boulder killed by a driver in a crash on July 29, 2023. Riders will depart the CU Boulder campus at 10 a.m. and ride on north on Folsom St./26th St. to Jay Road, then continue onto the southbound (Boulder bound) lanes of the Diagonal Highway (CO 119) to the site where Magnus White was killed before returning to the CU Boulder campus around noon. There will be a rolling road closure along the route to ensure the safety of the riders in the event. The Diagonal Highway will also be put into two-way traffic on the Longmont-bound lanes. Safety For All

If you are traveling through the area during the events, please pay close attention to the law enforcement officers and the volunteer traffic marshals who will be helping to make the events safe for everyone involved. When passing a bicyclist, motorists must allow at least three feet of space between their vehicle and a bicyclist. To pass a bicyclist safely, drivers may cross a double yellow center line when it is safe to do and when oncoming traffic is clear.
