Boulder County, Colo. -

On Saturday, July 3, 2021, rescuers from Boulder County responded to three rescues west of Boulder.

At approximately 12:54 p.m. the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a hiker who was lightheaded and not feeling well while descending the Fern Canyon Trail. Rescuers hiked up the Trail and met the 69-year-old male hiker from Longmont, CO, slowly descending the trail with his companions. The hiker was medically evaluated by rescuers and all agreed to continue hiking down the trail to the Bear Canyon Road, where he and his companions were transported back to their vehicles at NCAR. The rescue took approximately one hour and forty minutes.

Shortly later, at approximately 2:45 p.m., rescuers were called to the Second Flatiron to assist a 51-year-old male scrambler off the rock after a rainstorm. The scrambler called 911 after the rock became to slick for him to either continue up or exit off. Rescuers climbed to the scrambler’s location and lowered the Laramie, WY resident to the ground and escorted him out to the trailhead.

As that rescue was ending, at approximately 5:21 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was notified of seven individuals lost in the area of the Dry Saint Vrain Trailhead north of Raymond. The hikers from, various parts of the Denver and Pueblo areas, were visiting Egg Lake and lost the trail on their way out to their vehicles. Rescuers located the hikers on a trail and assist one of the hikers, a 21-year-old female from Pueblo, CO out to the trailhead due to exhaustion. The hiker did not require medical attention. That rescue took approximately three hours.

Agencies assisting with these rescue efforts included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
