Join the Boulder Mountainbike Alliance and Boulder County Parks & Open Space for a morning of riding the beginner and kid friendly trails at Heil Valley Ranch. This event will have mini-skills clinics, route suggestions, bike decorating materials, and educational information. This event is recommended for families with kids ages 3 to 10. Free loaner kids' mountain bikes and helmets will be available, or you can bring your own mountain bike and helmet. Guided rides with Boulder Mountainbike Alliance for all ages start at 9:30 and depart every half hour. Come anytime between 9 a.m. to noon for bike decorating and independent exploration of the trails. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Don't forget to stop by the Altona Schoolhouse where volunteers will be on hand to share the school’s history and restoration with visitors. Registration required. Register

Join us anytime between noon and 3 p.m. for a nostalgic afternoon at the historic Walker Ranch Homestead, where the past comes alive! Enjoy an old-fashioned vintage baseball game played by 19th-century rules, as the local Walker Ranchers take on their rivals. It’s baseball like you’ve never seen it, set against the beautiful backdrop of this preserved homestead. Game starts at noon. The game will be played using 19th-century rules. “Base ball” was two words back then. Those watching the game are cranks, rooters, or bugs; players are ballists. A hurler pitches the ball to the behind, or catcher. No gloves or helmets are worn, and a cloth ball and cloth bases are used. Listen for the players’ nicknames and a bell ringing as players reach home plate. Interested in playing base ball? Sign up to compete in some old fashioned athletic fun! That’s not all, costumed volunteers will be on hand to share historic games, chores, and stories of ranch life from the past, offering hands-on fun for all ages. Bald Mountain 2026 Sunshine Fire Protection District Taking for Cistern Sunshine Fire Protection District proposes to acquire a permanent non-exclusive easement over 0.07 acres of the Bald Mountain open space property for installation of a 40,000-gallon cistern that will store water to fight fires in the area. The property is located at 4111 Sunshine Canyon Drive near the intersections of Sunshine Canyon Drive and County Road 83. This gold-silver telluride mine, located in the Gold Hill Mining District of Boulder County, has a rich history. Placer gold was first discovered in the area in 1859 at Gold Run, whose watershed includes Cash Gulch. The gold-silver telluride veins were identified much later, with the claim staked in 1872.
