Suspect arrested on warrant for Sex Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust

Da’Jon Tyrik James, age 27, arrested

Boulder County, Colo. - The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Da’Jon Tyrik James, date of birth 08/19/1993, for Sex Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust. Mr. James was arrested today on the warrant and is currently being held at the Boulder County Jail.

Mr. James was a teacher at the Dawson School, located at 10455 Dawson Drive, unincorporated Boulder County. On February 5, 2021, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputies were contacted by Boulder County Child Protective Services regarding a possible sex assault on a student by a teacher.

During the course of the investigation, detectives met with four female students (Female – 17, Female – 17, Female – 18, Female – 19) and their parents, who reported their music teacher, Da’Jon James had touched them sexually. It was reported that this began in January 2021 and continued until the report was made on February 4, 2021.

The four female students disclosed they were subjected to inappropriate language, sexually explicit imagery, prolonged hugging, fondling, inappropriate complementing, and inappropriate kissing on their foreheads. All the alleged incidents occurred on school property during school hours.

Mr. James was arrested on two counts on the crime of Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust, contrary to C.R.S. 18-3-405.3(3), a class 4 felony, and one count of the crime of Unlawful Sexual Contact, contrary to C.R.S. 18-3-404(1)(a), a class 1 misdemeanor.
